Greeting

HASEBE Noriko, Director of the Career Design Laboratory for Gender Equality

Our university’s project “Supporting Female Researchers in Response to Their Motivation” was adopted as a Female Researcher Support Model Development Project via the MEXT Science and Technology Promotion Subsidy in 2008. Accordingly, the Career Design Laboratory for Gender Equality was created to establish a base for the support of female researchers.

Also in 2013, our project was adopted as a Female Researchers’ Research Activity Support Project (stronghold type) via the Subsidy for Fostering Personnel in Science and Technology. Through the subsidy, we established the Hokuriku Women Researchers' Network (HWRN) to expand our female researcher support system, as well as strengthen our partnerships with other organizations through research support, symposiums and workshops and enhance female researchers’ research abilities.

Our collaborative project with Toyama Prefectural University and YKK AP Inc. was adopted as an Initiative for the Realization of Diverse Research Environments (traction type) via the Subsidy for Fostering Personnel in Science and Technology, and we started the initiative through collaboration between three parties, each with individual advantages. The initiative aims to create environments for providing careful support according to life stage and job classification; improve female researchers’ abilities in research and management and facilitate their promotion through support for joint research through collaboration between the three institutions, female engineers’ degree acquisition and international conferences; and make “female researcher" a career model for female students, increasing the number of female researchers.

In 2015, Kanazawa University set the female teacher employment rate for each division; accordingly, the university has been promoting the employment of female teachers through public recruitment for women and use of the cross-appointment system. Toyama Prefectural University and YKK AP Inc. are also actively promoting the employment of women.

We hope to facilitate the creation of university and company environments where excellent researchers and engineers can play an active role and expand this initiative throughout the Hokuriku Region via HWRN, as an industry-academia collaboration model, thus realizing diverse environments across the entire region.

We very much appreciate your continued support.
